The Shop Train

The Shop Train

Publisher: Magabala Books

This wonderful collaboration is based on the Tea and Sugar Train that operated between 1917 and 1996 to provide supplies and services for people living in remote communities between Port Augusta and Kalgoorlie.

The late Josie Wowolla Boyle was a Wonghi woman and this story, featuring Rosie and her mother, was inspired by her childhood experiences with the train deliveries. The gentle illustrations by Paul Seden are a beautiful complement to the text, and the book skilfully provides historical material for young readers in creative and meaningful ways. A beautifully rendered, heartwarming journey back in time and place.
