The Emu Who Ran Through the Sky

The Emu Who Ran Through the Sky

Author: Helen Milroy

Publisher: Magabala Books

Reminiscent of an Aesop fable, this quintessentially Aussie tale of how the bush animals combine to help young Lofty the emu achieve his dream is a great yarn that conveys a strong moral. This is the second book in the Tales from the Bush Mob series.

Lofty desperately wants to win the big emu race but he is too slow and uncoordinated, and the other emus tease him and call him names. Undeterred, he enlists the help of various other bush creatures such as Eagle, Bat, and Sugar Glider who generously share their advice and encourage him to persevere. The solution to Lofty’s problem comes from an unlikely source and all ends happily. The importance of kindness, friendship, courage, and being part of a community are central themes, and the striking illustrations add colour and movement to the story.
