Out of Time
Publisher: Fremantle Press
At first, architect Joe Warton dismisses his momentary lapses in memory as stress-related. The first time he couldn’t remember where he parked his car, he had been running late to an important presentation for a client. When the episodes become too frequent and alarming to ignore, he tells his long-term partner Anne and proposes an end-of-life scenario that she is too distressed to consider. Then their beloved daughter gives birth to their first grandchildren, and Joe notices that the people he loves most are increasingly less likely to trust him with those they hold dear. Joe and Anne resolve to make the most of the time they have together and plan a trip that Anne has been wanting to do for a long time. Up in the Kimberley, all seems to make sense and they make decisions which will have far reaching consequences for those whom they love. This novel asks what it means to love, support and maintain that love and friendship even when it becomes almost impossible to do so. A timely and thoughtful novel.
