My Amazing Animal Alphabet Alliteration

My Amazing Animal Alphabet Alliteration

Author: Rachael Robertson

Illustrator: Rachael Robertson

Publisher: Redback Publishing

Like a sumptuous bowl of word soup, this book is brimming with lush language and flavoursome fun. ‘Defiant dogs drag daisies to the dam’, while ‘gangly grasshoppers gallop in the growing green grass’ and ‘a venomous viper vows to vigorously vault over a violet van’ – and it all bursts of the pages in riotous collages of colour.

This ambitious undertaking by author and illustrator Rachael Robertson (suitably alliterative by name) is beautifully realised through bold scrapbook-style artwork that fills every corner of each page and begs to be pored over by little eyes and hands.

Lovers of literature will rejoice in what Robertson has achieved here – a children’s book that lifts language up instead of dumbing it down. Young ones are sure to be challenged and amused along the alphabetical journey, while their parents and teachers will be quietly impressed the author didn’t even slightly short-change ‘X’ and ‘Z’.
