Quantum Words Perth 2022

Here are just a few visual snippets from a fabulous festival weekend. We’ll be adding more images to this gallery so come back soon.

Ubud Literary Lunch

Writing WA hosted a fabulous lunch event in July at Will St Restaurant – one of Australia’s 10 best new restaurants – with our special guest, Ubud Writers & Readers Festival founder and director, Janet DeNeefe.

Literature Live Around the World 2022

Perth once again put Australian writing on the international map when it kicked off Literature Live Around the World on Saturday 5 February.

Writing WA worked with LitFestBergen and other global writing organisations to create a program that took viewers on a literary journey across 12 countries.

Streaming live and non-stop for six hours from 9pm (AWST), Literature Live Around the World saw each host country present a live literary event harnessing home-grown talent – this year with the theme of ‘Dust’.

Australia’s 2022 contribution featured WA author Michelle Johnston in conversation with ABC Book Show host Claire Nichols about Johnston’s highly praised debut novel Dustfall.

A full selection of images from the event is available here.

Ubud Writers & Readers Festival Perth 2021

In 2021 we built on our longstanding relationship with the Ubud Writers & Readers Festival to launch Ubud Writers & Readers Festival Perth. Over three days in October we were privileged to present an outstanding bilateral program of talks and performances featuring writers and artists from across Australia and South-East Asia. We now look forward to establishing Ubud Writers & Readers Festival Perth as an annual event in WA’s literary calendar.

A full selection of images from the Festival can be viewed on UWRF Perth Festival website.

Love to Read Local Week 2021

Our first, fully on-the-ground Love to Read Local Week was a huge success and included a range of activities for readers across the State.  Some of our key events are captured in these images.  To view more moments from the week go to the Love to Read Local Week media page.

William Dalrymple and “The Anarchy”

William Dalrymple speaking to audience at the Confluence FestivalAcclaimed author and historian William Dalrymple was our guest at the inaugural Words on Water Festival in Mandurah last year.  He spoke to a packed audience about his latest work, “The Anarchy: The Relentless Rise of the East India Company.”  The full presentation can be viewed here while a 7 minute excerpt is now available to view here.

Our brand identity is a gold medal winner!

Image: several aspects of Block's designWe are so excited for our friends at Block Branding who took home the (extremely rare) Gold Skull at last week’s Perth Advertising & Design Club’s Skulls for their fantastic work in creating Writing WA’s Brand Identity. We absolutely agree with the judges decision and love our new look as much as they do. We also loved our time working with Block and send our huge congratulations to the team.

Western Australia has successfully launched two new writers festivals!

With the 2019 inaugural Confluence Words On Water and Quantum Words Perth festivals now behind us, we want to send a huge shout out to our Festival partners and sponsors, to all of the amazing artists and speakers who joined us over five extraordinary days, and to the wonderful audiences who immersed themselves in these events with us.

It’s been a massive undertaking for Writing WA to develop and deliver these two events but the outcomes have been worth it. We are thrilled to have opened two new chapters in WA’s literary life and look forward to these events continuing and growing in the years ahead.

Check out the image galleries for some memories of what occurred, and a taste of what’s to come in the years ahead.  All images by Jessica Gately.
