Fish Work is a new collection of poetry from award-winning writer Caitlin Maling. All the poems were written as part of three years fieldwork during which time the poet worked alongside marine researchers on the Great Barrier Reef. In Fish Work Maling combines personal detail and reflection with scientific and ecological ideas, creating a fascinating world for the reader to enjoy. Her titles are particularly punchy: I Tell Tiago My Oldest Heartbreak Over Lunch, and This is the Poem Written on the Only Dry Bits of Paper Locked in a Sandwich Bag Under My Wetsuit being two examples. Fish Work represents the first dedicated poetic investigation into the Great Barrier Reef in the time of climate change and is a book to savor and deeply consider.
