Summary

Alan Fyfe is a Jewish Australian author from Boorloo, the unceded country of the Noongar nation. His poetry and prose fiction has received recognition with a number of awards and listings in Australia and internationally. He is the author of a novel, T (Transit Lounge 2022), and a poetry collection, G-d, Sleep, and Chaos (forthcoming, Gazebo Books 2024). Alan is currently writing a novel in chiastic structure and a short story collection, while teaching English and writing at UWA, and trying to find time to sleep occasionally.

Biography

Alan has broad experience with festival and library appearances, both in performance (music and spoken word), as a panelist, and as a moderator. He has designed and run workshops on several forms of writing, taught at a tertiary level, tutored secondary school students, and assisted with unit design and research at university.

Alan's writing skills have adapted across most genres and styles, including published poetry, journalism, essay, prose fiction, commercial songwriting, professional reporting, and social media promotion. He has held editorships for online creative journals in Australia and the U.S.

In 2019, Alan fronted a campaign to save UWA Press from closure by its parent university. He authored an open letter protesting the closure which was signed by many writers and academics of interanational significance, including Oscar, Booker, and Nobel Prize winners. The campaign was ultimately successful and UWA Press remains in operation today.
