Sally Barton writes books for children and sneaks in the occasional book for adults under the name of Sarah D Gordon.
Sally is the author of Goodnight Sheep, illustrated by Cherie Dignam and The Something Terrible Series, illustrated by Christopher Nielsen.
Sally is also a tutor for children with learning difference and is passionate about helping children realise their potential in the world and that not being able to spell perfectly does not define who they are or what they can become.
Sally studies law at university but is more interested in phonics and vowels and what e does at the end of a word and other such word rules. Yes she has been called a word nerd and hopes to encourage word nerdiness in future generations.
Biography
Sally Barton was six when she first took a book from the library and from then on words and stories became an important part of her life. She not only spends her days creating fictional worlds for both adults and children, but she also passes this love and knowledge on to her students as a tutor for children with learning differences. Sally completes the Jolly Phonics training through Jolly Educationa and training and has undertaken studies in other areas of education such as dyslexia and reading. Sally previously worked for the police but was happiest at her job in a public library while she finished her degree in Legal Studies. Sally enjoys teaching and travelling but writing is her first love. Sally was honoured to win the Writers Unleashed Picture Book Competition in 2022 with Goodnight Sheep.
It was dream come true when Sally was offered publication of Goodnight Sheep with Fremantle Press which was followed by an offer of publication of Tim Tie Your Shoelaces and Becky Brush Your Hair, books 1 and 2 of The Something Terrible Series, by Walker Books Australia, with books 3 and 4 due out later this year.
