Biography

After a childhood spent bouncing between farms and small towns in the American Midwest, Per Henningsgaard received his BA from Vassar College in upstate New York. From there, he migrated downstream to New York City, where he worked as an editorial assistant for a multinational publishing house. Then, in 2005, he was awarded a Fulbright Grant on the basis of a proposal to study book publishing and regional literature in Western Australia. Per went on to be awarded his PhD in 2009 from The University of Western Australia. He returned to the United States later that same year to hold permanent teaching positions in the English Department at University of Wisconsin–Stevens Point and later the master’s degree in Book Publishing at Portland State University. In both places, he also worked as the director of small, independent publishing houses. Finally, in 2017, he pulled up stakes for Perth and a job as lecturer in professional writing and publishing at Curtin University. He recently founded Elephant Page Publishing, which is a publishing house that is powered by students and guided by a team of publishing professionals with a mission to uplift new voices and talents on both sides of the publishing process.
