hrxhr Week 20: The Right to Peaceful Assembly

Article 20 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights states that everyone has the right to freedom of peaceful assembly and association, and that no one may be compelled to belong to an association.

Read some reflections on Article 20, written by Marziya Mohammedali, a photographer, poet, educator, designer and artist, based in Boorloo (Perth), and then participate with your own response.

Respond to the questions in the language of your choice, in the media that you choose. Words, art, photos, video.

  • How can you amplify absent or unheard voices?
  • What does protest mean to you? We’d love you to share a protest photo with us.
  • Do you feel safe to peacefully gather?
  • Are there times in which you or your community has not felt safe to assemble?

Find out more, including how to submit your response, by heading to hrxhr’s website.
