Western Australian writer Paul Baird has announced the publication of his debut novel, Pretty Boy Red, published under the pen name Derek Byrne by UK independent publisher Eye Books.
Set in a juvenile prison in Western Australia, the novel follows fourteen-year-old Joel Brady as he awaits trial for murder while struggling to piece together the fragmented memories that brought him there.
What begins as a story of imprisonment becomes an exploration of culpability, isolation, memory and the boundary between victimhood and complicity.
The ebook edition is available now through major digital retailers in Australia, with the print edition due to become available in September.
More information can be found via Eye Books and major online booksellers.
