ASA Campaigns for Digital Lending Rights

The Australian Society of Authors (ASA) is calling on creators to contact their local politicians to request an expansion of the lending right schemes to include Digital Lending Rights.

The ASA has stated that COVID-19 has highlighted the need for the implementation of Digital Lending Rights and that the Government ‘has failed to adequately respond to the ASA’s call for the expansion of the PLR/ELR payment schemes to include digital formats.’

On 20 April 2020, the ASA wrote to Minister for the Arts, Paul Fletcher, requesting that expansion of PLR / ELR to digital formats be made a priority now. According to the ASA, the Minister’s response ‘has merely committed to monitoring the situation with no timeline for change’.

The ASA is now encouraging its members to join the campaign.
