Suzanne wrote her first play at the tender age of nine, as entertainment for her classmates during their sewing lessons...
Since those less-than-illustrious beginnings she has practiced and honed her writing for performance techniques; become a published and performed playwright (see https://australianplays.org/playwright/ASC-3369); won numerous grants and accolades for her plays; and passed on her skills and passion for writing for theatre to the next generation(s) of performance makers and those simply wanting to improve their storytelling and characterisation through dialogue and action.
Suzanne Ingelbrecht is a published and performed award-winning Western Australian playwright. Her plays include Fragmented, Blusher (a Maj Monologues Finalist for 2008) and Breathe Out and I Breathe You In. She has been a KSP Writer’s Centre Writer-in-Residence and the 2011/2012 William Evans Playwriting Fellow at Otago University, New Zealand. She currently teaches into the creative writing program at Curtin University, and in the past year has debuted as an actor in P R E S E N T E S! – her memoir play based on a recent life-changing journey through South America, with funding support from the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries (Culture & The Arts WA) amongst others.
Her particular passion is to engage artists with disability in writing and theatre-making activities; and she has facilitated a number of masterclasses and workshops nationally and internationally, including with internationally renowned inclusive theatre company Back to Back Theatre in Geelong. She has written essays on disability for Westerly and Interdisciplinary Approaches to Disability: Looking Towards the Future (Routledge).
