Lionel was born and brought up on a farm in Kenya. He has lived a nomadic life with stints in Zimbabwe, South Africa and the UK before moving to Perth with his family in 2022.

His literati credentials include a MA in English Literature with distinction for a thesis on the works of 17th century English poet Robert Herrick.
