Summary

Kerry is an award-winning poet and writer based in Perth. Her work explores the reality of women's lives—the parts that are often whitewashed in mainstream media. As a widow and solo parent, Kerry has a particular interest in writing about grief, and what comes after the shock of loss. She is in her final year of the low-residency MFA program at Cedar Crest College.

Biography

Kerry Greer is a Western Australian poet and writer. She received the Venie Holmgren Prize for Environmental Poetry in 2021. Kerry has been shortlisted for the ABR Calibre Prize, the Woollahra Digital Literary Award, the Stuart Hadow Short Story Prize, the Newcastle Poetry Prize, the ACU Poetry Prize, the W.B. Yeats Poetry Prize, the Bruce Dawe Poetry Prize, the Fractured Lit. Fairy Tale and Fable Prize, and more. In 2022, she was one of ten writers selected for the Publishable program, run by Queensland Writers' Centre.

Kerry completed a B.A. in English Literature and French at the University of Western Australia in 2008. She is a student in the MFA program at Cedar Crest College, due to graduate in 2023. In the past year, Kerry has received mentorship from Welsh poet laureate Gwyneth Lewis, from U.S. poet Peter Streckfuss, and from Australian poet and academic Felicity Plunkett. She participated in a writing residency in Barcelona during June and July of 2022.

Kerry’s work frequently addresses the experience of widowhood and solo parenting. Her writing has been widely published in literary journals and anthologies, including Westerly, Cordite Poetry Review, Australian Poetry Journal, the Weekend Australian Review, Rabbit, the Grieve Anthology, Plumwood Mountain Journal, and more.

Kerry’s debut poetry collection The Sea Chest will be published by Recent Work Press in 2023. Her fiction is included in the anthology ACE III: Arresting Contemporary Stories by Emerging Writers (Recent Works Press). Her poetry features in a tribute to Irish writers (including the Irish diaspora), published by Rattle in March 2023.

Kerry is also an experienced proofreader. She trained as a legal proofreader in the Belfast office of Allen & Overy, and later worked as a freelance editor.
