Charmaine Cave

Summary

Charmaine Cave is an award-winning book designer and a published author and illustrator. She is the founder and Creative Director of Cave Design, which specialises in bespoke book design, and the co-author of the book ‘Swanning Around Perth: An exploration of the Black Swan in our city’ with Alex George AM.

Biography

Charmaine was born and lives in Perth, Western Australia. She has over 27 years of design experience, creating innovative and effective solutions for local, national and international clients. She is a professional member of the Australian Graphic Design Association (AGDA) and served as the President of the AGDA WA Branch from 2012-2013, Vice-President from 2010-2012 and as a Councillor from 2007-2010. She is also a professional member of the Australian Book Design Association (ABDA) and the Australian Society of Authors (ASA). Charmaine served as a Councillor for The Government House Foundation of Western Australia Inc. from 2007-2015.

In 2014, Charmaine co-wrote the book ‘Swanning Around Perth: An exploration of the Black Swan in our city’ with Alex George AM. In 2018, Charmaine’s illustration work was included on the ASA’s ‘The Style File’ which showcases book illustrators from Australia and New Zealand.

Recent experience

From 2007-2015, Charmaine participated in the Australian Graphic Design Association (AGDA) mentoring program and folio review sessions to provide graduating graphic design students with valuable feedback on their portfolios. Charmaine served on the AGDA WA Council for seven years and was Vice-President from 2009-2012 and President in 2013. She also served as an AGDA WA judge at a TAFE graphic design graduate show and has twice been invited to Edith Cowan University to speak to their graphic design students about her career.
