The Ampersand Prize

Created by Hardie Grant Egmont in 2012, The Ampersand Prize is an award for unpublished writers of middle-grade and young adult fiction.

Submissions will be accepted by writers in Australian and New Zealand, who have not previously had a young adult or middle-grade novel published by a trade publishing house anywhere in the world. If you have had a picture book, adult’s novel, educational or non-fiction title published, you are still eligible.

Each writer may submit ONE completed manuscript (Middle-grade fiction are usually between 30,000 and 50,000 words long; YA fiction are usually between 50,000 and 90,000 words long).

Prize: The winning manuscript will be published by Hardie Grant Egmont under the terms of a publishing agreement.

Closing date: Friday 31 July 2020.
