Pilot Project to Revive Out-of-print Books

The ASA, researchers from the University of Melbourne and Australian public libraries are working together on a project that will digitise out-of-print books, licensing them into public libraries for digital lending, and making them available for sale as e-books.

Expressions of interest are currently being sought from authors of culturally significant Australian books that are out-of-print for this pilot project.

Authors from Western Australia, South Australia, Tasmania and the ACT are especially encouraged to apply, as libraries in these areas are key project supporters.

This pilot project is funded by (or receiving in-kind support from) the University of Melbourne, Macquarie University, Northeastern University (Boston), the State Library of Western Australia, Public Library Services (South Australia), Libraries Tasmania, Libraries ACT, the Australian Library and Information Association, and the Australian Society of Authors.

Expressions of interest are due by 1 September 2020.

For further details about whether your out-of-print book might be suitable for this project, please visit the ASA and/or University of Melbourne websites.
