Due to the increasing number of requests Underground Writers has been receiving from emerging editors looking for opportunities to learn, Underground will be trialing 6-month rotations of Junior Editors to help emerging editors gain experience.
Current and former Underground Editors have used their experience at Underground to help them gain highly contested internships and further paid employment in the literary industry.
With this in mind, 2 editors will be invited to join the editorial team every six months, to edit issues and produce content for Underground’s website.
The first six-month period will be from 1 March 2020 to 31 August 2020.
The second six-month period will be from 1 September 2020 to 28 February 2021.
Junior Editors will read all submissions and participate in the feedback process with the Senior Editors for 2 issues during their six-month placement.
Each Junior Editor will work with an author to edit one piece per issue with guidance from a Senior Editor.
The other role of Underground editors is to produce content that supports the local writing community. Junior Editors will be asked to undertake one interview with an Australian author and one book review of an Australian debut novel during their placement.
Applications for the first round in 2020 will close on Sunday, 2 February at midnight WST. All applicants will be notified of the outcome of their submission.
