In 2021, the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA) will pilot a scheme where publishers can grant permission for the use of their Australian picture book titles in ‘Online Storytime 2021’ in return for a small annual payment from public library branches.
The pilot follows the introduction of Online Storytime in Australian public libraries during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020.
Australian publishers can opt-in new or backlist titles for the 2021 Online Storytime pilot by registering interest.
The Australian Publishers Association has stated that it welcomes this expansion of the scheme, particularly features supporting authors and publishers; however, it has provided feedback to ALIA that many APA members find the current 6-month window for uploaded videos too long and would prefer shorter availability for online storytime videos.
