Introducing the New Writing WA Team

Writing WA is proud to begin the new year by welcoming a new team to the organisation.

Shannon Britza, formerly CEO of the Katharine Susannah Prichard Writers’ Centre, has been appointed as Writing WA’s Operations Manager. In her role, Shannon will be tasked with overseeing all operational matters and leading the organisation while a new CEO is recruited.

Jessica Checkland also joins Writing WA as Marketing and Communications Officer. Jess joins the team with experience as a Marketing Assistant at Fremantle Press and as a bookseller and social media manager at Dymocks.

With several years’ valued experience at Writing WA, author Melinda Tognini will continue her role as Communications Officer.

Writing WA Deputy Chair Holden Sheppard said the new staff appointments marked the start of an exciting chapter for the organisation.

“The Board is delighted to have recruited a team of talented professionals, each of whom has a huge breadth of experience within WA’s writing sector – from leading local writers centres, to working for publishers and booksellers, and being published, working authors themselves,” he said.

“Every member of this team has experience at the coalface of this sector, and understands the opportunities and challenges facing our member organisations and writers.

“This means the new team is well-positioned to listen, advocate, support, champion and collaborate with all the various stakeholders in the WA literary ecosystem.”

Operations Manager Shannon Britza said she was elated to take on the role.

“I’m looking forward to working closely with more of my peers and colleagues in the WA writing sector,” she said.

“The next few months will be focused on reconnecting with our stakeholders and exploring how Writing WA can work in collaboration to make amazing things happen for writing and literature in this state.”

The Board of Writing WA will soon commence a recruitment process for a new CEO.
