The Australian Writers Guild is seeking input to support playwrights.
News that Australian Plays have been unsuccessful in securing four-year funding has come at a time when playwrights have already been grappling with uncertainty over the future of Playwriting Australia.
The AWG says that it is “deeply concerned about the impact of cuts to the Australia Council’s funding, and the dramatic cuts to the support infrastructure for the professional development of playwrights”. The AWG wishes to “harness the energy and experience of our members and the theatre community to help us respond to this crisis in a focussed and representative way”.
To this end, AWG has created an online space for its members, other playwrights and supporters to register their opinions and ideas.
Playwriting Australia is also inviting responses to the review it has conducted recently, in order to “consider the most effective and sustainable model of supporting play development that also offers a pathway for writers to see their work through to production and support playwrights in their career development.”
Submissions to the Playwriting Australia review, of no more than six (6) A4 pages, can be emailed to Richard Evans ([email protected]) no later than Friday 6 September 2019. Alternatively it can submitted via the AWG portal, anonymously if preferred.
