2024 CBCA Book of the Year Awards Notables List Announced

The Children’s Book Council of Australia has announced its Book of the Year Notables List.

A number of Western Australian writers, illustrators and publishers were included on the list.

Book of the Year: Older Readers

  • Borderland by Graham Akhurst (published by UWA Publishing)
  • Eta Draconis by Brendan Ritchie (published by UWA Publishing)
  • I am the Mau and Other Stories by Chematai Glasheen (published by Fremantle Press)
  • One Song by A.J. Betts (published by Pan Macmillan Australia)

Book of the Year: Younger Readers

  • Dirrarn by Carl Merrison & Hakea Hustler, illustrated by Dub Leffler (published by Magabala Books)
  • Scout and the Rescue Dogs by Dianne Wolfer, illustrated by Tony Flowers (published by Walker Books Australia)
  • Uncle Xbox by Jared Thomas (published by Magabala Books)

Book of the Year: Early Childhood

  •  Gurril, Storm Bird by Trevor Fourmile, illustrated by Jingalu (published by Magabala Books)
  • Gymastica Fantastica by Briony Stewart (published by Lothian Children’s Books)
  • Nedingar: Ancestors by Isobel Bevis, illustrated by Leanne Zilm (published by Fremantle Press)
  • Shadow Catchers by Kirsty Murray, illustrated by Karen Blair (published by A & U Children)
