2019 CBCA Book of the Year Shortlist

The Children’s Book Council of Australia (CBCA) has announced its Book of the Year shortlist. Congratulations to the following Western Australian authors, illustrators and publishers:

Book of the Year – Younger Readers

  • Carl Merrison & Hakea Hustler for Black Cockatoo published by Magabala Books
  • Kelly Canby for her illustrations in Jaclyn Moriarty’s The Slightly Alarming Tale of the Whispering Wars, published by Allen and Unwin

Picture Book of the Year

  • Michael Speechley for The All New Must-have Orange 430, published by Penguin Random House

Eve Pownall Award

  • Mark Greenwood for The Happiness Box (illustrated by Andrew McLean) published by Walker Books
  • Magabala Books for Our Birds: Ŋilimurruŋgu Wäyin Malanynha by Siena Stubbs.

The CBCA Book of the Year Awards will be announced in Melbourne at noon AEST on 16 August 2019.
