Summary
Award-winning children's writer of How to Bee, The Dog Runner and Across the Risen Sea, also the award-winning In the Dark Spaces, YA thriller, as Cally Black.
Biography
Bren was raised in NZ on many farms around the central North Island and spent a few years backpacking around the world in her 20s before slowing down just long enough to raise kids in Melbourne. It was there she took up writing seriously. Her career really kicked off by winning the Ampersand Prize with Hardie Grant Egmont for a YA thriller in 2015, and was immediately backed up by Allen & Unwin accepting a children's novel. Both these novels won multiple awards in 2018. After a devastating house fire in Melbourne, Bren and family lived in a motorhome travelling Australia for two years and finally settled again, just as 2020 'happened' on the beautiful mid west coast of WA.
