DESCRIPTION:The Mattie Furphy Short Story Competition run by the Fellowship of Australian Writers WA is open!\nPrizes range from $1000 for first prize\, $300 for second prize and $100 for third. \nOpen topic\, up to 3000 words. \nBrooke Dunnell\, who has had short stories published in New Australian Fiction 2021\, Best Australian Stories as well as Meanjin\, Westerly\, and other anthologies\, is judging the Mattie Furphy prize this year. \nEntries are $22 for FAWWA members and $27 for non-members.\nEntry and Ts and Cs are on the FAWWA website: https://www.fawwa.org/mfss-comp

SUMMARY:The Hitchhiker's Guide to Travel Writing - Tom Wilson
DESCRIPTION:You are invited to explore the history and future of travel writing. Thomas M. Wilson will be your\nguide on this short journey through an exciting literary genre.\nIn this workshop we will try to answer the question\,\n‘What is travel writing’? In answering that\nquestion we will move from early accounts of religious pilgrimage to tales of exploration after the\ndiscovery of the New World in the fifteenth century\, to the Grand Tour of European aristocrats\, to\nthe greats of twentieth century travel writing.\nWe will consider the importance of the personal opinions of the travel writer. Towards the end of\nthe morning there will be time to complete a short piece of travel writing of your own.
