Bring your book into the world with ‘Zoom into Writing, Publishing and Self-publishing’ online course to help you write well and demystify the publishing process.

They say there is a book in all of us but bringing it out into the world isn’t always easy. Firstly, getting a draft down in clear, beautiful and engaging language needs writing craft, a good mindset and discipline. Secondly, the publishing process can be overwhelming—editing, formatting, publishing and marketing. This online course delivered through Zoom shows you how and runs over six Sundays 2.30 to 4 pm – from July 24th to August 28th 2022.

Alan and Karen will take you through the essentials—what makes for a good story, how to create compelling characters and a well-structured plot, and how to get your stories into the world. You’ll learn how to engage and hold a reader, and how to edit your writing.
We’ll look at life-story and fiction. We’ll learn from the writing of top contemporary authors. There will be plenty of exercises to open up memory and imagination and take your work to another level.

As well as working on your own stories, you’ll find out about how to get them published or self-published. The publishing world has changed so much over the last decade. Traditional publishing has lost its hold over authors with the advent of self-publishing. With platforms like Amazon and Kobo, anyone can publish both digital and physical books. It can seem overwhelming to keep up with these changes, but Karen will walk you through the steps and share some of the tools you can use.

Alan Hancock has won prizes for his short fiction and scripts. His work has been published in a range of magazines and online, and broadcast by the ABC and BBC. He has taught creative writing at Curtin University, lead workshops at local libraries, and regularly runs courses in professional writing for government and corporate clients.

Karen Peradon is an editor, self-published author and ghost-writer. She has edited thousands of words from PhD theses to website pages, screenplays to memoirs and novels. She has helped writers shape their work and led them through the self-publishing process in both fiction and non-fiction. She has written and self-published three novels.
