The Business of Being a Writer 2020

22 February @ 9:30 am - 2:00 pm

A Collage of the guests appearing at the Business of Being a Writer event.

Whether you’re a published writer, aspiring author or just interested in a behind-the-scenes look at the business of publishing, you won’t want to miss this seminar.

One ticket gives you access to one or all of the expert panels below as part of your Literature & Ideas Weekend:

9.30 – 10.15 am: Prepare for the moment a contract lands on your desk with a panel on copyright, contracts and subsidiary rights with Jane Fraser, Craig Silvey and Alan Carter.

10.30 – 11.30 am: Find out what a day in the life of a best-selling author is like. Meet booksellers from Dymocks and The Little Bookroom for an in-depth look at books from behind the counter with Cate Sutherland, Holden Sheppard, Natasha Lester, Michael Earp, Allyce Cameron and Aisling Lawless.

11.45am – 12.30 pm: Discover what’s vital to know before creating, distributing and marketing a self-published title with Claire Miller, Deborah Lee of Ingram Sparks, Annabel Smith and Wendy Binks.

1.15 – 2 pm: Join Rebecca Higgie, Georgia Richter, Terri-Ann White and Rachel Bin Salleh and get insider tips on editing manuscripts from WA’s three largest publishing houses – essential for anyone wishing to submit to one of our local literary awards.

There will also be representatives from Editors WA and various writing centres on hand during the day to meet you and answer your questions.
