Submitting to Publishers

22 November @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

$8 – $45

So, you’ve completed your novel and you’re excited about your literary future. However, there are just as many writers also about to submit their work to publishers. So, how do you make your work stand out and ensure you give your book the best chance of success in an intensely competitive environment?

Join award-winning author and mentor Laurie Steed as he demystifies the publishing process and gives hints and tips on how to succeed with your literary submissions. Along the way, you’ll find many ways in which to both strengthen your work and increase your chances of having your work meaningfully considered for a publishing deal.

This is a ticketed event with limited capacity – bookings are essential.

About the Facilitator: Laurie Steed is an author, mentor, manuscript assessor and the Partnerships and Business Development Manager for Writing WA. His debut novel, You Belong Here, was shortlisted for the 2018 WA Premier’s Book Awards. His second book, the memoir, Love, Dad, was published by Fremantle Press in August 2023, and his third book, Greater City Shadows, will be published in February 2024.

Venue: State Library of Western Australia, Ground Floor, Geographe Room.

Ticket Sales: All proceeds from Writing WA workshops & events fund the organisation’s ongoing mission as a non-profit registered charity to support West Australian writers and writing. Writing WA acknowledges the current economic challenges facing Australians. As such, to improve accessibility to professional development activities for the writing community, Writing WA has introduced a ‘Pay What You Can’ ticketing model.

Companion Card: Writing WA accepts the Companion Card for all tickets events. Please contact Shannon on [email protected] to arrange this free ticket.
