So you Want to … Create a poetry “menu” inspired by Mirka Mora with Jessica Wilkinson

29 June @ 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm

$35 – $50

This workshop will provide participants to use sensory and personal stories from meals to create poems inspired by Mirka Mora’s recipes.

In this workshop, participants will be guided to use sensory responses and (auto)biographical stories, evoked by shared meals/food, as ingredients for ‘extended ekphrasis’. In using Mirka Mora’s favourite recipes (i.e. foods she prepared at her cafes and for friends/family) as a stimulus for poems, this project will attend to the sensations evoked by text and texture, ingredients and their combinations.*

Target audience: This workshop could be open to people of all experience levels, although it would be best suited to adult writers (18+) and those open and interested in a poetry workshop that offers a multi-sensory gustatory element!

About the facilitator: Jessica Wilkinson has published three poetic biographies, Marionette: A Biography of Miss Marion Davies (Vagabond 2012), Suite for Percy Grainger (Vagabond 2014) and Music Made Visible: A Biography of George Balanchine (Vagabond, 2019). Jessica is the founding editor of Rabbit: a journal for nonfiction poetry and the Rabbit Poets Series of single-author collections by emerging poets. She co-edited the anthologies Contemporary Australian Feminist Poetry (2016) and Memory Book: Portraits of Older Australians in Poetry and Watercolours (2021).
