Shut Up and Write (Mount Hawthorn)

24 June @ 10:00 am - 12:15 pm

Shut Up and Write is a free weekly event (though you are encouraged to buy at least a coffee).

Do you have a writing project, or simply want to carve out time for some journaling or poetry writing?

Do you sometimes need help to get started, to motivate yourself, or to find focus?

Or maybe you crave company despite the solitary activity, or just want to meet other writers.

Then you need Shut Up and Write!

Shut Up and Write will run weekly on Mondays from 10.00 am to 12.15 pm, commencing Monday 22 April 2024.

The sessions will take place in Mount Hawthorn (full address provided on booking)

BYO project and writing materials.

Contact Raelene: [email protected], 0439 722 470 for more information and to book your place.

Meet in a small group, grab a coffee and/or a snack at the cafe, and then write together on your own projects. This is not the sort of program that gives you prompts, it’s a program designed to help you build your word count.

The morning consists of 4 x 25 minute blocks of writing (when we all “shut up and write”) broken up with 5 minute breaks:

  • 10.00 am: arrive, order a coffee (or similar), get settled (arrive a little earlier if you wish to order breakfast)
  • 10.15 am:  Shut up and write (25 mins)
  • 10.40 am: 5 min break
  • 10.45 am: Shut up and write
  • and so on.

Some weeks you may choose to stay on for lunch.

N.B. If you arrive late, we will not stop writing to greet you. Please take a seat quietly and join in or read until the 5 min break when we will be all smiles.

You may be surprised at how much easier it can be to write when others around you are doing the same. In the breaks there’s a chance to get to know each other a little, as well as before hand and after for those who wish to stay on and buy lunch at the cafe (it’s a great writing environment, not super loud).
