Decolonise Your Writing: Poetry

11 April @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

Free
ID: Poet Kaya Ortiz is smiling at something off camera. To the left of her photo is a quote from poet Ellen van Neerven , which says, "we are not here until we sit here/ we sit in silence and we are open/ there are different kinds of time/ I hope you'll understand"

In this workshop, guided by the work of First Nations poets including Ellen van Neerven and Evelyn Araluen, participants will deconstruct traditional colonial ideas of poetry, and learn what it means to decolonise the form, and how this goes beyond poetry.

Through writing activities and prompts, participants will experiment with poetic form and uses of language. Participants will have a chance to share some of their work with the group if they choose.

This workshop is presented in partnership with the Centre for Stories.
