The Society of Women Writers WA Inc. has launched the 2020 Ethel Webb Bundell Literary Awards for poetry and short stories.
Ethel Webb Bundell was a widely published and prize-winning author of short fiction, poetry, articles and novels. She was the founding member of Atelier, the WA Branch of the Society of Women Writers Australia for four years from 1977. When the WA branch was set up in 1981, Ethel was the inaugural President and later a life member. She also worked tirelessly to establish and support other writing organisations in WA. Ethel passed away in October 2014, aged 89.
Submit a poem up to 100 lines or a short story not exceeding 4,000 words.
The competition is open to everyone.
Entry fees: 1 entry in either category is $8; 2 entries $15; 3 entries $21.
Prizes: In each category, first prize is $400, second prize is $200 and third prize is $100. Highly commended and commended certificates will also be awarded.
Professor Terri-ann White, author and Director of UWA Publishing will judge the short story entries. Accomplished Western Australian poet, Kevin Gillam, will judge the poetry.
Closing date: Tuesday 31 March 2020.
