City of Vincent Local History Awards

The Awards encourage and reward community participation in recording and sharing the history of the City of Vincent.

The City of Vincent Library and Local History Centre invites written and photographic entries on subjects such as:

  • People or groups in Vincent (individuals, families, local artists, businesses, community groups or sporting clubs, schools, religious or charitable groups);
  • Places in Vincent (histories of houses and buildings, streets, lanes, parks, trees or landmarks);
  • Events documenting historic or contemporary events in the Vincent area.

The Awards are open to everyone including non-residents.

All entries become part of the Local History Collection and, online Image Library

Written Entries

Geoffrey Bolton Award: Life in Vincent  

Written entries can be in the form of memoirs and autobiographies, biographies, essays, historical narratives based on historical research or original research of any kind. The judges are looking for stories that enhance our knowledge of people, places and events in the Vincent area, past and present.

Written entries must be no more than 2,000 words and may be supported with photographs, maps or illustrations.

Prizes: 1st prize – $500; 2nd prize – $250; 3rd prize – $150; Youth Award (schools or individuals 18 years and under): $100

Photographic Entries

Category 1: Historic Images (Pre 2000)  

The judges are seeking historical images of people, places and events in Vincent. Entries may be in the form of prints, slides or digital images.

Prizes: 1st prize: $200; 2nd prize: $100; 3rd prize: $50

Category 2:  Contemporary Images (Post 2000)  

The judges are seeking contemporary images of people, places and events in Vincent. Entries may be in the form of prints, slides or digital images.

Prizes: 1st prize: $200; 2nd prize: $100; 3rd prize: $50

People’s Choice Award: $100

A ‘People’s Choice’ prize for the most popular photographic entry (voted online) will also be awarded.

Entries close: Friday 30 August 2019.
