2024 Dorothea Mackellar Poetry Awards

Submit poems up to 80 lines.

Optional theme: “Listen, I have an Idea”.

Open to students enrolled in an Australian education facility (Kindergarten to Year 12). All types of mainstream schooling systems are eligible, as well as home schools, Highly Potential and Gifted Education (formerly GAT) programs, special needs groups, alternative education and individual young writers.

Types of entries include individual, participation only, group poems and class poems.

Entries are limited to up to 3 poems per student.

Categories: lower primary (K to 3), upper primary (4 to 6), junior secondary (7 to 9), senior secondary (10 to 12), assisted learning (primary), assisted learning (secondary), David Maher Award (primary only, best individual entry from a small school with a total of 30 students or less), schools award (primary & secondary).

Entry fees: $20 for an individual (up to three poems), $30 for up to 30 poems, $60 for over 30 poems and $80 for over 100 poems.

Closing date: Sunday 30 June 2024.
