| Biography | Briony Stewart was born in Perth in 1984. After graduating from Perth Modern in 2001 with state awards in Art and Creative writing, she received a scholarship from the Art Gallery of Western Australia to study Fine Art and Creative writing at Curtin University. After graduating with a double-degree from Curtin in 2005, Briony's first manuscript, Kumiko and the Dragon was picked up for publication buy UQP, and published in 2007. The book was well received and in 2008 won the national Aurealis awards for Children's short fiction, and was listed as a Notable Book by the Children's Book Council of Australia. Since then Briony has received an ARTSWA grant for artists under 25 to develop as a children's author and illustrator with the May Gibbs Children's Literature Trust in Melbourne. She currently lives, paints and writes in Leederville and is working on a sequel to Kumiko and the Dragon. |
