Peter Russo (1908-85) was one of the most controversial figures in 20th century Australian journalism. While living in Japan in the late 30s, he developed close associations with some of the coutnry's political leaders. After returning to Australia in 1941 he continued to inflame passions with his outspoken views in defence of Japan. Love him or hate him, Russo made Australians think about their attitudes and about the world beyond Australian shores.
