The Australian Reading Hour’s premise is simple: on Thursday 14 September 2017, stop what you’re doing for one hour and pick up a book. It’s that easy.
The Australian Reading Hour is an initiative that encourages Australian adults and children to embrace the benefits of reading for one hour. It aims to encourage people, both young and old to either rediscover their love of reading or introduce them to the joys of storytelling and learning.
Reading is incredibly important for both adults and children, leading to long-lasting identity formation and setting up success for the future. Research shows that reading reduces stress by 68% more than listening to music, going for a walk, or a cup of tea.
The event encourages booksellers, libraries, and teachers to organise reading events, promote the initiative in-store and on social media, promote their favourite Australian books, and coordinate author events. Contact the Australian Reading Hour if you would like to get involved.
