My name is Wolfgang and I'm a slam poet from Germany. Three years ago I founded www.myslam.net as a poetry slam portal for German speaking countries. The whole platform was programmed for slam poets and their needs. It is a great success here in Germany, Austria and Switzerland and in October 2009 I decided to make it international.
Now it is also available in English (and soon in French and Spanish) and I try to get in contact with poets around the world. I would like to invite you to join this growing community of spoken word artists. Here are some features that might be interessting:
- The poetry slam map: You can add poetry slam location to the map or find new slam locations you didn't know about.
- The calendar: You can add events to the calendar. These events can be associated with slam locations in the map. You can also add un-associated slams (e.g. on festivals), readings, workshops and solo
performances, which only appear in your personal profile. You can join any event in the calendar. The events you have joined are then displayed in your profile. So people can see where you will perform
soon. After a poetry slam you can set yourself as winner or 2nd or 3rd place. Also in the detail view of the event you can see who else will perform on the poetry slam.
- The Media-Gallery: You can add youtube videos, vimeo videos and amazon articles to your profile. So people can see you perform or directly buy your book orCD on amazon.
- The Forum: There are forum categories for every country. You can get email notification about new posts and comments to your post. But only if you want.
- Country specific. On top you can choose which countries you are interested in. You only see content from these countries then. This ensures, that you are not annoyed by forum posts from other countries
and you don't see Chinese poetry videos in the gallery (in case you don't speak the language :-)). As soon as you are registered the map only shows slam locations in your country. The calendar only contains
events from the countries you selected and the poets gallery only shows poets from these countries. Quite simple.
- Your profile: Your email is never visible. You will only get a newsletter every two month or
even once in half a year (actually almost never, because I neither like getting nor writing newsletters). You don't get spam or anything else. It's just me behind the website. Ask me, if you have problems or
suggestions.
- All the others: At the moment of course there are still mostly German speaking poets registered, but the european countries slowly start to fill in content and poets register. I would like to see you there soon, too.
- Everything is free, donations can be made of course :-)
Myslam.net helped a lot to establish new slam locations as it is easy for the poets to find them and get in contact with the hosts. Of course the situation is different in Australia, as the distances are greater.
Maybe you can tell me how you manage to visit different slam locations, would be interesting. Here in Germany the host pays your train ticket or the fuel for your car. But I don't think that the hosts in Australia pay your plane ticket.
Germany, Austria and Switzerland have more than 300 regular poetry slams and the poets are travelling a lot.
Ok, that's all so far. Feel free to contact me, if you would like to know
more
Kind Regards
Wolfgang
