A new writing group is to commence at the Victoria Park Centre for the Arts

A round-the-world adventure which led to a whirlwind romance has inspired local newcomer Kathy Gardner to start a new writing group.  The group commences at the Victoria Park Centre for the Arts this month and is aimed at like-minded individuals wishing to get together for mutual support and motivation with their writing aspirations, in a friendly and sociable situation.

The group meets on Wednesdays from January 18th, from 6.15 to 8.15pm at the Victoria Park Centre for the Arts, 12 Kent Street, East Victoria Park 6101.  Cost per session is a gold coin donation to the centre and membership is $25 per year ($20 concessions).

There is no permanent tutor, but group administrator Kathy explains, “I hope to introduce a variety of guest tutors and the occasional published author from time to time, to further encourage and guide the group”.

“Whether you are an experienced writer looking for feedback on your work, or a novice like myself, with a keen interest in developing your writing skills, we hope that this group will fulfill your needs.”

Kathy has been working as a volunteer at the Vic Park Centre for the Arts since arriving in Perth last September.  After taking a year-long career break in 2010, Kathy left her home in the UK and travelled around the world, capturing her adventures in an on-line travel blog.  Her humorous and distinctive style of travel writing created quite a following, and to her surprise she found great enjoyment and satisfaction in putting her experiences and observations down in writing.

Her blog almost took the form of a romantic novel, when she met and fell in love with her current partner whilst on tour in Western Australia and has now moved to Perth to be with him.  “The response to my blog and the exciting course my life has taken, has given me the motivation to continue to develop my writing skills, and I’m looking forward to sharing ideas and information with others in the group.”
