The Brisbane Writers Festival (BWF) committee has announced the appointment of Jane O'Hara as artistic director.
O'Hara, who replaces Michael Campbell, has worked with the festival for a number of years, including three years programming its young readers' program Word Play.
‘Jane has a talent for programming that is relevant and contemporary, along with a deeply embedded artistic and intellectual integrity,' said committee chair Jonathan Fulcher. ‘More importantly Jane brings vibrancy and dynamism to the position that we are confident will be reflected in her programming.'
O'Hara said she was thrilled to take on the role, having first been involved the festival in 1985. ‘I have always enjoyed Brisbane Writers Festival,' she said. ‘It is a robust festival, strong programming within the relaxed and comfortable surrounds of the State Library of Queensland--a fantastic combination.'
O'Hara takes up the position in April.
